About This Blog
My blog focuses on practical life tips, saving money, and how-to. Being a first generation Italian-American and the son of immigrant parents, I have "being practical" in my blood, so I created Scordo.com to share my life experiences surrounding managing money, a home, and a life! I'm not a professional money manager, regular on This Old House, or a trained psychotherapist, rather just a regular guy who writes about what he observes. I take debt and savings very seriously and outside a mortgage our family carries no outstanding debt. Saving money and living a frugal life does not require a degree in brain science, but it does require discipline, being practical, and not following others.
I look up to many people but I especially admire:
- My Mother and Father - for their perseverance, craftiness, compassion, and the life lessons they've taught me thus far.
- Warren Buffet - for his practical approach to making money
- Noam Chomsky - for his intellect (both in linguistics/cognitive science and human rights/social thought)
I'm a decent tennis player, wine lover, and an amateur cook. I also like watching films, fixing stuff, and reading. I studied philosophy, linguistics, and psychology as an undergraduate and I'm still very interested in the field of cognitive science. I've worked as a research assistant at an Ivy league university, an Internet start-up, an advertising agency, a German car company, and currently, a consumer product testing and advocacy organization. My wife tells me I make sense on occasion, but please challenge my assertions and advice as I'm learning to make my way through life - just like you!
