!Cento Italian Pantry Giveaway Has Ended!

Last summer I espoused the virtues of the Italian pantry and the concept of being prepared to cook and eat well every day of the year regardless of access to “fresh ingredients.”  Specifically, I suggested lovers of Italian food keep a well stocked pantry including varying dry pasta shapes, canned fish, cheese and salumi, beans, etc. so that a quick meal can be put together on the fly and, more importantly, independent of visiting your local restaurant or take out establishment.

The well stocked pantry has a special place in my heart because the Italian homes I grew up in, including my grandmother and mother’s kitchens, never lacked staples for creating wonderful, and simple, meals.  My grandmother’s pantry, as an example, included homemade pickled vegetables (i.e., eggplant, carrots, green tomatoes, spicy peppers), oil cured sun dried tomatoes, provola, 2-3 variations of salumi, oil cured black olives, larger green olives, salt cod, pasta, dry beans, twice baked bread with a long shelf life, etc.  Many of the items in the pantry were homemade and represented a way of living and eating that was tied to life in Calabria during 1940-1970’s; including the basic principles of eating on the cheap, eating well, and preparing your own food.

In the spirit of my grandmother’s food philosophy and enabling our readers to keep a well stocked Italian American pantry, Scordo.com has partnered with Cento to offer one lucky Scordo reader a chance to win a few staple Italian pantry products.  Cento produces well over 1,000 products with six distinct brands including Ferrara, Anna, Bellino, etc. and  I’ve always liked the Cento product line up because it represented good value and accessibility for Italian and Italian American foods.

  1. Its hard to pick just one, but I will go with what i use every day and that is EVOO, Fregola may be next.

  2. Any one of the olive oils will do…along with all the other items! LoVe them ALL!

  3. I have to say that my favorite Italian pantry item is Olive Oil; I prefer the cold press and use it in just about everything involving cooking. I’m already a fan of Scordo and enjoy reading your posts and recipes. I’ve gone gluten-free and dairy-free, so it’s been extremely difficult trying to cook Italian. I’m second-gen Italian and hope to one day visit my nonna and nonno’s home of Calabria and my nanny’s hometown of Sicily. I just “liked” Cento, so please enter me in the contest. I use Cento products regularly. I also “share” many of the stories and updates from Scordo to my FB friends/family.
Thanks for this opportunity to enter. Keep up the good work, Vincent.

  4. We are addicted to olive oil, plus I mix it with my body lotion, and it is good for hair.

  5. We always have pasta handy! It makes for quick and delicious meals!

  6. I would love to win this prize and thanks for the giveaway. I can say that I always add Italian seasoning to my pasta sauce!

  7. Cento’s San Marzano tomatoes are the best. Just a bit higher in price but boy do they make a difference in the taste.

  8. There are so many excellent products and hard to pick just one, but I love the San Marzano tomatoes!!

  9. My favorite is Cento’s Crushed Tomatoes.

  10. Ciao Chow Linda

A wonderful giveaway. I’ve been on a cherry pepper kick lately, and they ‘d make some fine “shooters” stuffed with provolone and prosciutto. I already “like” you on FB but will do the same with Cento and share this on FB and Twitter.
